The Real Truth About American Sniper, Or "American Psycho", As Some News Outlets Call It

American Sniper has been praised and criticized for the portrayal of Chris Kyle as an tried and true American hero.

Unsurprisingly, the divide between attitudes also extends to political views. Towards the conservative end, everyone praises the masterful portrayal of a tried and true "good guy" fighting the "bad guys". In opposition, the liberal outlets all condemn the movie as a well-produced piece of propaganda. Additionally, the release of this movie caused a wave of Islamophobia to sweep the country, or at least the ideologically conservative Bible Belt. In some cases, physical violence has broken out from fanatical viewers of the movie. One American Muslim has spoken her fears, saying:

This movie has caused exponential growth in the open displays of pure, uninformed hate posted on social media, most prominently on Twitter and the like. Quite possibly most appalling is the sheer volume of the hate and the profane racial slurs used. Several examples are as follows:

The issues simply present themselves. While American Sniper is quite the well developed film, it will remain as a piece of simple propaganda for years to come.
