Over the course of the existence of the Internet, youth have always been either in the middle of its gestation, or submersed in all it has to offer. In the beginning, children had very set-in-stone places to be, and could be adequately monitored. With the advent of better hardware and more lucrative and enticing websites; however, the Internet as a whole became a more (and less) inviting place for little ones to be.
Being a product of the Internet myself, I believe that I have seen a number of things at ages far too young. Yet, is this a reason to ban children from the internet? I believe this to be untrue. The system of web filters meant to keep children and wayward Wi-Fi users on task has many more uses that are not even imagined. Rather than a blanketing filter obstructing many fun sites, having a more focused filter in place at the home that uses a routine search of image or video sources can possibly prevent children losing entertainment or, worse, permanently scarring them.
