Websites are more focused on content such as news and even services. While a website is easy to setup getting one that looks professional, and has content that readers will find valuable is rather difficult. When I first started creating websites I was very inexperienced and in my two years since starting I have learned a lot and am constantly trying to fix the mistakes of yesterday.
I started off creating a traditional news based websites, eventually earning me enough traffic to join Google's Adsense program. I quickly realized that if I am going to work as a large-scale publisher I would need a design that fit my needs and this has always been the most annoying part for me.
I could make my own theme, but this would take months and the amount of features, that would be in it, would be minimal, it takes large web design team's months to great 1 theme for websites, so I opted to purchase a theme. The one, that I have (as of the time of this post), is rather poor it does not allow me to show off my content in a way that I find visually appealing. However, I am in the process of working with a developer to get my news based website into shape.
In late 2014 I launched another website that was based on flash games. I called it The Arcade Corner. In the beginning, I was like this is not going well what am I doing wrong? I realized that the biggest thing, that the competition and I differ in, is backlinks. Many arcade websites link trade but if a search engine catches on you are bound to get a hit to your traffic. This leads me to getting valuable backlinks through social media. Now my games are posted to social media accounts, several times a day generating valuable back links, and my traffic is increasing. My traffic in the beginning was about 10 visitors a day... In one month of using my own social media accounts, I was able to get 100 visitors a day. While this is not a lot, this is from an effort that took me 1 hour to implement.
The next step is working with the developer on a redesign for the website. This is expected to be finished in February. I am expecting in February to relaunch the websites under a new design, and I am expecting greater returns.
When I turn 18 (April) I will start contacting various companies in the arcade industry to work on a new service that is going to bring new life into the industry.
I am looking forward 2015 not only for my websites, but for everything else that it has to offer me.
